Castleton Primary School has  a long history of working with The Speech and Language Unit and the Acorn Centre, both of which are special needs provisions for children in schools across Rochdale. The children come from their school and spend time in either the Speech and Langauge Unit (for children with complex speech and communication needs) or the Acorn centre (for children on the autistic spectrum ) having their needs met, learning an adapted curriculum and spending some time in our infant classes, and then after a time they return to their mainstream school, to continue their learning journey.

We also work closely with our neighbouring schools. Marland Hill Primary School, Brimrod primary School, St Edwards’ Primary School, High Birch Special School and Matthew Moss High School have worked together on many events to enhance the learning experience for all our children and to provide training for staff  that one school on their own would find difficult to provide. Together we hold workshops, training days, arts events, song festivals and sporting events, and we have a shared way of working so that the principles of one school are shared by the others.

We work with Childcare Serrvices so they provide an After School Club for children. Please contact  school for more details and costs.  This club takes children from St Gabriel’s Primary School and St Edward’s Primary School and also provides a holiday club if parents wish their child to attend.

We have a partnership with Rochdale’s Music Service to provide music tuition for those who wish to have it (please contact school for prices and possible instruments!) A member of th4 Music Service (Mrs Willis) teaches music to all our classes, and the children have a great time. The choir was very successful last year. I thank Mrs Willis for her dedication to our children and her enthusiasm!

Castleton Playgroup runs out of our school and has a very close partnership with school. Virtually all the children from the Playgroup join Castleton Primary School in the nursery and then continue into the Reception class. This is without doubt on the best start to learning for any child and I am very thankful that we can provide this for our parents and children .

We also link with three other schools to provide out of school hours learning (clubs) for the children Thanks to a Lottery grant we form partnerships with Rochdale Football team, local artists, musicians and other coaches to provide clubs in things we wouldn’t normally be able to provide. Water activities, kick boxing, art, music, sewing, athletics, football, netball, swimming  are just some of the activities  we provide for our children and there are more!

Without doubt our greatest partnerships are with the children  and the parents- without you trusting us we couldn’t do what we do best.
